December 20, 2012 - Cars 4 Christmas is an organization dedicated to helping low-income families get the autonomous transportation they need to get their lives on track. According to the Cars4Christmas website, about 40 percent of the country’s transit dependent population lives in rural areas. In these rural areas, the public transit system is unsatisfactory or non-existent. New jobs exist, but many people cannot get to these jobs because they are located in urban and suburban areas. In fact, it is estimated that about 50% of new jobs are located outside the range of public transportation. Imagine if there were a way to match up unemployed people with these out of range jobs. That is exactly what Cars4Christmas.org seeks to do.
Cars 4 Christmas was started by Terry Franz, who worked in the automotive industry for many years before starting Cars 4 Christmas. Franz helped create special lending plans for people who otherwise could not afford a car. As Franz saw it, there were a lot of people out there who had insufficient credit due to uncontrollable circumstances. He felt that these people deserved a chance to get their lives on track. It is nearly impossible to function in modern American society without a car. At some point, Franz decided that his efforts were not enough. So, he leveraged the contacts that he made while working in the automotive industry to start Cars 4 Christmas.
Every year Cars 4 Christmas receives 20,000 requests for cars from families in need. As of now, there is no way for Terry Franz’s organization to meet this demand, but they are doing the best they can. With the help of, automotive dealers, gas companies, repair shops, tire stores, tow lots, parts companies, and private donors Cars 4 Christmas is able to provide cars to hundreds of families across the country. If you have a car you want to donate to Cars 4 Christmas, or even if you only have a few dollars to spare, every little bit helps!
