10 Myths about Online Parts

Trepidation isn’t uncommon when it comes to auto repairs and parts. If you’re on the fence when it comes to buying auto parts online, we’ve compiled a list of common fears concerning the process—and put them to rest!

car myths

1.  Aren’t as good as store bought parts:

Chances are, you’ve heard someone recount a horror story regarding an online purchase. Most seem to concern the quality, or lack thereof. While there are certainly cheaply made parts floating around the inter web, the overwhelming majority of online vendors offer parts that are the same, if not better quality, than comparable store parts.

2.  Won’t fit my car like parts from a dealer:

Wrong! Reputable online vendors have the same access to original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts as your local dealer. OEM parts are manufactured by the same company that made the rest of your car, and are guaranteed to fit. However even parts that aren’t produced by an OEM can still fit just as snugly as those that are. Always look for a compatibility checker, like the one on the Buy Auto Parts site, when selecting parts—this will ensure that your desired part fits.

3.  Can’t be used in dealer repairs:

Why not? It’s your vehicle after all! Buying your necessary parts online gives you more control over how much you pay for repairs. While labor fees are typically non-negotiable, buying your own parts should always be an option when taking your car into the shop for repairs.

4.  Are only for suped up vehicles:

While it’s always fun to modify and improve vehicles, the majority of online part sales go to normal people looking to save on their next auto repair.

5.  More expensive than the dealer:

This one is always funny; because chances are that the parts you need can be found cheaper online than in-store. Online stores often have a larger and more varied inventory, allowing them to provide the same or better selection as your local shop, but at a better price.

6.  They void warranties:

Not at all! Online parts are just as encouraged as store bought parts for repairs. If you plan to extremely upgrade or modify your vehicle, be sure that the changes are allowed by your warranty. If so, any parts bought online will work fine!

You would be surprised how powerful an engaged mind with some handy Youtube videos can be. If you are mechanically inclined always explore the DIY option, It can save you from spending unnecessary big bucks at the shop.

8.  Don’t provide customer service and other help:

While we can’t speak for other companies, BuyAutoParts.com has several how-to videos to guide your repairs. If the videos don’t work, we’ve got a dedicated staff of USA based part pros to help you in a pinch.
